Sasquatch twenty10

So the 3 day pass has come and gone. I just couldn't fork up that much money plus camping. Only one other friend was down for all three days but that weekend is a three dude minimum requirement at best.

But this is not a sad story folks in fact I am determined to go see these great performers, so single days passes for me! Sunday is a must in my eyes. Kid Cudi, Dirty Projectors, the XX and some other potential goodies. I think I might have found a buddy for Monday which could prove to be equally as good maybe even better.

Maybe a three day pass and camping next year, or even better a festival in a previously untraveled city but this spring and summer are coming into fruitation and thats a great part about this time of year. New, new and some more new. I can smell baseball in the air, the pinecones are poppin, and it's almost time to start golfin again. We are going to have our first sunburn of the new year before we know it. But even if the Seattle skies return from now until then I know Sasquatch won't let me down.

Word.

10 years and counting

I am heading back to California tomorrow night which has become an annual thing since I left in 2006. This trip is a little different than others though. The main purpose this year is to celebrate one of the many anniversaries that I will have this year. A small gathering and celebration for the 10 year anniversary of our CIF district championship. It was my junior year and I was probably the 9th to 10th guy off the bench that year. I have some great memories of that year like scoring 12 points in a big win over our main rival Harvard-Westlake. I also had some forgettable moments that year particularly the game that I made two turnovers in like 10 seconds. Interestingly enough I can't seem to forget this one though. Coach called me into the game to sub on a dead ball only to then commit a turnover on the first thrown in. Two points for the other team. I then commited another turnover on the next throw in. Two more points for the other team. I was subsequently pulled from that particular quarter surprise surprise. But to make matters worse it was on live throughout the valley and relived several times over on tape with my teammates afterwards each time garnering more and more laughter at my stellar 10 seconds of play. Mind you the camera never moved past half court it was that quick and that bad.

I have no plans to attend my 10 year high school reunion which would be this year as well but this is one reunion I would never miss. Anyone who has ever played on a team as dedicated as we were can understand the love and friendship you develop with your teammates in any given year. We had great chemistry, talent and depth. We had one expectation and goal that season and we accomplished just that. I am excited to see the old teammates who can make and hope to see the others before 10 more years pass. Those type of years are few and far between in our long lives so this is one reunion I would never miss. If not to see that championship banner once more. To step on that particular hardwood one more time were I spent so much my high school days. But most of all to see my "Family" once again.

Salinger

For those who haven't read or heard, J.D. Slainger, the author of "Catcher in the Rye", recently passed away. It's always sad to hear of anyone's death and let him rest in peace. I write about him because I can not stop thinking about something. For years Salinger rejected offers for the movie rights to Catcher. I am sure for lots and lots of money but none the less from what I have read he didn't want to see an interpretation of that kind. He even rejected theater producers not just Hollywood. So here we are at what I think is a major crossroads for wonderful book.

The imagintive movie that we the readers and fans of Catcher have created in our minds may be forever altered in the coming years. The rights for this project are left with his kin I would believe and what I have read is that he hoped it to be a kind of insurance policy for his ex-wife and daugther knowing that someday a motion picture adaptation would be made. The daugther apparently wrote a not so pleasant biographical account of her father at one time. Given the limited information we know, even in this limited amount of time leads me to believe that the rights will be sold and we will soon see Holden Caulfield on the big screen.

When I first read the book and was really into movies I was pro-movie adaptation but now as I have grown older and read about this story more and more, I say no. I do not want to see a movie attempt to be as good or better than this book. More than likely it will be Hollywood saturated down right bad. I don't want the Catcher movie I have shot in my own mind to become permated with someone else's interpretation. Honestly I like the romanticism and mystery of there being just the book and more importantly it is as Mr. Salinger has so wished. Though I have also read he acknowledged that this probably would have after his death but he would be grateful that he passed before having to see it.

All in all things don't last forever so one day it will happen. I guess I can only take on the same attitude as Mr. Salinger. I do have an itch to read Catcher again though because its been roughly ten years since I last read it. Lots of anniversaries so far for me this year and I would bet they are not slowing down but thats another post.
