10 years and counting

I am heading back to California tomorrow night which has become an annual thing since I left in 2006. This trip is a little different than others though. The main purpose this year is to celebrate one of the many anniversaries that I will have this year. A small gathering and celebration for the 10 year anniversary of our CIF district championship. It was my junior year and I was probably the 9th to 10th guy off the bench that year. I have some great memories of that year like scoring 12 points in a big win over our main rival Harvard-Westlake. I also had some forgettable moments that year particularly the game that I made two turnovers in like 10 seconds. Interestingly enough I can't seem to forget this one though. Coach called me into the game to sub on a dead ball only to then commit a turnover on the first thrown in. Two points for the other team. I then commited another turnover on the next throw in. Two more points for the other team. I was subsequently pulled from that particular quarter surprise surprise. But to make matters worse it was on live throughout the valley and relived several times over on tape with my teammates afterwards each time garnering more and more laughter at my stellar 10 seconds of play. Mind you the camera never moved past half court it was that quick and that bad.

I have no plans to attend my 10 year high school reunion which would be this year as well but this is one reunion I would never miss. Anyone who has ever played on a team as dedicated as we were can understand the love and friendship you develop with your teammates in any given year. We had great chemistry, talent and depth. We had one expectation and goal that season and we accomplished just that. I am excited to see the old teammates who can make and hope to see the others before 10 more years pass. Those type of years are few and far between in our long lives so this is one reunion I would never miss. If not to see that championship banner once more. To step on that particular hardwood one more time were I spent so much my high school days. But most of all to see my "Family" once again.
